In today’s world the office has become a place of high fashion with women now able to experiment and show their personalities through their fashion choices at work. Dresses, shirts, skirts, trousers and suits, the fashion possibilities are endless and with the use of colour and texture, we can have fun looking chic and professional in the work place.
Here Kate Angliss, head of merchandise at fashion e-tailer Kaleidoscope offers her top tips on looking stylish at work…
Colour- When we think of work wear we often think of dull drab blacks, whites, navies and greys- but think again. Colour is a great way to inject some personality into your work wardrobe so try wearing a colourful top or trouser to add a wow factor to your outfit. Alternatively try using accessories to add colour with a statement necklace or bag for a more subtle option.
Pattern- This season is all about prints so why not wear them at work? Try wearing a print skirt or trouser with a plain top and heels for a glam and very on trend look at work. Opt for smaller patterns for a more flattering look and this will also ensure your outfit is still ultra-professional.
Heels- Heels are a must have for any stylish work wardrobe. Not only do they give you confidence, they also improve posture, making you stand taller. Team them with a fabulous dress, skirt or trousers, they are extremely versatile and will finish any outfit off perfectly. Opt for a classic pair of courts to keep it professional but don’t be afraid to look for different colours to add some excitement to your outfit.
Statement bag- Every working woman needs a statement bag to compliment her outfit. Look for a structured bag inspired from the likes of Prada, Chloe and Celine as great examples of classic bags that will last you a lifetime.
Accessorise- Everyone knows that accessories can transform an outfit, so why not add accessories to your work wardrobe? Go for big bold necklaces with simple shirts for a professional and on trend look.
The must-have- Every woman should have a tailored jacket in her wardrobe. Flattering, smart and sexy, they finish off any work outfit perfectly. They look super professional but, teamed with a pretty dress, you can transform the jacket from work to night. Add some red lipstick and you are ready to go. Opt for a short, single breasted jacket which will flatter all body shapes.
Shape- When considering investing in a new work dress, opt for shapes that flatter your figure. If you are pear shaped opt for an A-line shape that accentuates your tiny waist and flares out over your hips. If you are hourglass don’t be afraid to wear a dress that shows off your curves yet still remaining professional. If you are apple opt for wearing bright or print on your bottom half and a plain coloured top to balance proportions.
Shape wear-Secret shape wear is every woman’s best friends as it flattens and sculpts any part of your body you don’t feel confident about. Invest in shape wear and it will transform the way your favourite work dress fits you, giving you that extra bit of confidence in the office.
Power dressing-This season it’s all about power dressing at work. The suit is back in full force and a two piece suit has never been so stylish. If you are feeling adventurous, try a patterned suit or if you want to go for a more subtle suit, try one in a pastel colour. Great for spring summer and also looks great with a tan from your summer holiday!
Get noticed- When at work you want to look and feel your best so be sure to draw attention to your best parts in order to really boost confidence. If you have a tiny waist, show it off with a belt or if you have long legs, wear high-waisted trousers!
