Tom Ford believes he is "too cynical" to be considered a true "artist" in the fashion world.

The 55-year-old designer-and-filmmaker launched his own self-titled label in 2006 after earning and cementing his reputation as the creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.
The brand has become one of the biggest in the fashion with his creations regularly worn on the red carpet by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce, Johnny Depp and Henry Cavill, however, Ford doesn't think his talents for creating clothes can compare to his idols such as Riccardo Tisci and the late Alexander McQueen.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: "There are fashion designers who are true artists. Alexander McQueen was one. I think in some ways Riccardo Tisci is one at Givenchy. Miuccia Prada I love, as well. (But) I think perhaps I'm too cynical to be a true artist."
Ford - who has four-year-old son Jack with his husband Richard Buckley - believes he had a decade when he was leading the way in the fashion world and now he is content to make great garments.
He explained: "I had a run of 10 years from 1994 to 2004 where I was one of the driving influences in fashion. But I've moved into a different phase where I have a different kind of influence. I am very innovative now, I think, in the way I approach the business. Perhaps that's more innovative than the kinds of clothes I make."
Ford launched his film production company Fade to Black in March 2005 and readily admits Hollywood inspires his catwalk shows.
He spilled: "We (designers) use all those things. People think we just throw some things on and send the (models) down a runway. We don't. In the fashion world, we pull images (from movies) like crazy."
On Wednesday (07.09.16), Ford unveiled his Fall 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week and he streamed the glamorous event on his own website.
