As part of her decade-long collaboration with Adidas, the 43-year-old designer is reprising her role of creative director after creating the team's kit for the 2012 Games in London, and has called the opportunity an "honour".

Stella said: "It is a great honour to work with our great athletes again to make them proud with the designs we are creating for them."

The kits themselves are still under wraps, but the replica kits for the 2012 Olympics sold out across the country, so Stella has already set herself a high "benchmark".

Barry Moore, UK brand director for Adidas, said: "Three years ago we set the benchmark. Bringing together our innovative sports technology with the designs from Stella McCartney will allow our athletes to perform better than ever before."

Footage released today shows Stella getting hands-on with the athletes that she has come to know on a first-name basis, including gold medalists Jessica Ennis-Hill and Laura Trott - who will all be wearing her designs in Rio, which began being designed in early 2014.
