Roberto Cavalli is dressing up as Santa for Christmas.

The 74-year-old fashion designer has confessed he will be swapping his luxury apparel for an iconic Father Christmas outfit this year to entertain his family, wife Eva, children Robin, Christiana, Rachele, Daniele and Tommaso, as well as his seven grandchildren.

He told WWD: "Of course I'm going to be Santa Claus, what do you expect? I have seven grandchildren."

The Italian-born fashion legend is planning to spend the holidays with his wife and family in his hometown Florence before jetting off to Dubai on Boxing Day to celebrate New Year's Eve.

The start of 2015 marks the end of a tumultuous year for Roberto after he was sued for allegedly copying an artists graffiti work in his designs earlier this year.

A group of Northern Californian street artists filed a lawsuit against the fashion designer, claiming he lifted various graffiti-style patterns for his Just Cavalli collection.

Jason Williams, Victor Chapa, and Jeffrey Rubin insisted the label had infringed their copyright on a graffiti work they did in San Francisco's Mission district, and claimed: "Just Cavalli introduced a clothing and accessories collection in which every square inch of every piece - including clothing, bags, backpacks, and shoes - was adorned with graffiti art."

However, a spokesperson for his eponymous label denied any wrongdoing.

They said: "We have heard of some highly inflammatory allegations, which have no basis in fact and are incorrect; we intend to contest and defend against these allegations vigorously. In order to avoid the time and expense of unnecessary litigation, we also intend to communicate with the artists' attorneys to discuss a mutually agreeable resolution of the issues."
