Oscar de la Renta insists he is not looking for a new creative director after rumours suggested he was stepping down and looking for a replacement.
The 81-year-old fashion designer has addressed rumours he is searching for someone to replace him at the helm of his design house, after reports suggested Olivier Theyskens of Theory and Prabal Gurung were two names thrown into the hat.
But Oscar has now told The New York Times that there is "no search under way", although it is not said to be definite and there are rumours he could be looking in the future.
Oscar was speaking to journalist Vanessa Friedman, who wrote about the story on her blog.
She said: "The fashion world and its famous founders of houses are notoriously terrible at their own succession planning, in contrast to their corporate side which seems to have it very much in hand.
"De la Renta himself is 81, and has had various health issues over the years. It's a natural question, and I am sure it has been discussed on 42nd street, the de la Renta headquarters... It would be pretty to think so, anyway."
