Mum might be our official style icon, but research also shows that they need our help too.
According to the results of a new study, it seems that many mothers are keen to keep up to date with the latest fashion trends and rely on their offspring for fashion advice in order to do this; as 48% confess to looking for their child's approval when purchasing new clothes.
The majority revealed that they sought approval to ensure their purchases were age appropriate.
Surprisingly a fifth, 19%, admitted that their clothing choices had caused arguments with their daughter in the past- and so her approval was sought in order to reduce the risk of fallout. 35% also stated that they sought approval to avoid accidentally purchasing the same clothes as their daughter.
Matthew Wood of vouchercloud, who coducted the research, made the following comment: “'Like mother, like daughter' is a well-worn phrase. But should it possibly be, 'like daughter, like mother?’ as it seems that many women take the lead in the fashion stakes from their daughters. The results suggest that mothers are also likely to trust their daughters to be honest with their opinion. To use another clichéd line, it's probably the case that asking 'Does my bum look big in this?' of your daughter will result in a truthful answer, rather than the one you might prefer to hear."
Daughters are the number one go-to for fashion advice because they're more likely to honest and are up-to-date with the latest fashion trends.
