Miley Cyrus is fed up of having short hair.

The controversial starlet has been rocking a peroxide blonde pixie crop since last summer, but has now decided to grow out her signature edgy hairdo.

Speaking to Kelly Osbourne on E!'s 'Fashion Police', Miley admitted: "I'm secretly tugging on it every night and taking [hair growth vitamin supplement] Viviscal, I'm not going to lie. But I'm going to rock it while I have it."

Miley - who has sported styles as varied as long waves, a faux hawk and blue hair in the past - hinted she might start wearing hair extensions again as soon as her locks get long enough.

She laughed: "I love a good weave. I can't help it, I love a good piece. But I don't have anything to clip [it to]. Yesterday I wore a rat tail. I got lots of feedback on Twitter on that one."

The 'We Can't Stop' singer also reflected on the big impact her radical crop has had and how proud she is to have broken the stereotype of what is typically considered "sexy" by being crowned the winner of Maxim magazine's Hot 100 poll.

She reflected: "Doing the cover of Maxim and having short hair, I feel like I'm speaking on behalf of girls everywhere, breaking this, like, stereotype."

Regardless of her chosen image, Miley feels the most important thing about her style is breaking free of her Disney star background - even if she does polarize opinions.

She insisted: "Exactly. It makes people talk."
