Manolo Blahnik lives in a "shoe mausoleum".
The footwear designer's luxury pad in Bath, South West England, is home to around 30,000 pairs of prototype Manolos and he joked there are so many high heels lying around the place, it's more like a burial chamber than a house.
He told Vanity Fair: "I don't live in a house. I live in a shoe museum! 'Shoe mausoleum' would be better! I lost about 300 in a flood in London. But it's OK. I saved some of them."
The self-effacing shoe maven also revealed he hates being famous and especially despises looking at pictures of himself.
Blahnik laughed: "Isn't it awful. All the fames ... I see my photo and I think I vomit."
Despite having built a multi-million dollar empire off the back of his coveted shoe creations, he insists he doesn't care about money.
He enthused: "I love to work. I don't have any life! But, you know, people of my generation, we didn't think much about money.
"I believe that everything is done for the pleasure of doing it. I have that kind of mind, I think. Maybe I'm crazy."
The 70-year-old Spanish designer - whose biggest fans include Sarah Jessica Parker, Kylie Minogue and Anna Wintour - also claims to not be interested in fashion.
Blahnik confessed: "I've never been interested in fashion. I do fashion--yes. But let's say I don't follow it."
