The 25-year-old actress has admitted she had to opt for a "plan-B" gown when she attended this year's awards ceremony, at which she was given the Best Actress prize for her performance in 'Joy', because the event coincided with her period.

Speaking about the rouge red cut out gown she adorned in January to the new issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, the straight talking star said: "That was my plan-B dress. Plan A was a dress that I couldn't wear because awards season is synced with my menstrual cycle, and it has been for years."

Jennifer chose the simple frock because she felt it was less restricting for her during her period and she did not feel conscious of her bloated stomach wearing the ensemble.

The Hollywood beauty explained: "It was loose at the front. And I didn't have to worry about sucking anything in. The other dress was really tight, and I'm not going to suck in my uterus."

Jennifer - who is from Louisville, Kentucky - also confessed she never had much interest in fashion until she became a favourite of the paparazzi.

The 'Hunger Games' star - who won the Best Actress Oscar in 2012 - said: "I think I started paying attention to fashion as soon as paparazzi started happening a few years ago. I was not ready. I was like, 'What do I wear?' I had to start paying attention. When I turned 25 it got easier because I know, 'This is you, this is not you.' "
