Jean Paul Gaultier is stopping his ready-to-wear collections.
The French-born fashion designer has decided to put an end to the women's and men's ready-to-wear departments of the Parisian-based brand in order to focus his attention on the label's fragrances, haute couture and other unspecified projects.
In a letter to WWD, Jean said: "After more than 38 years spent producing men's and women's ready-to-wear collections, it seems to us that the time has come to stop some of our activities and to concentrate principally on the development of the haute couture, of perfumes and to certain collaborations that I have not yet had time to explore.
"For some time, I have found true fulfillment in working on the haute couture and it allows me to express my creativity and my taste for research and experimentation.
"This is a new beginning, I will be able to express again my creativity fully and without constraints."
The 62 year old - who also acted as the creative director of luxury label Hermes from 2003 to 2010 - will show his final ready-to-wear collections for the spring-summer 2015 season at the Grand Rex at Paris Fashion Week on September 27.
The news comes just three years after the Spanish fragrance and fashion group Puig bought a majority stake in the fashion house.
Jean added that the decision to end the collections was made by himself and Puig's executives following an "in-depth assessment" of the brand's ongoing projects and future.
