Harrods is rumoured to be going international, with stores opening overseas.

The famous London department store is looking at locations in New York City and "other prime cities", according to Ahmad Al-Sayed, the chairman of the company's executive board.

He told WWD: "Everything is for discussion, and we are studying different ways of expansion," but insisted the classic London building with its green awnings would not be copied overseas.

Al-Sayed also revealed that Heathrow airport's new standalone Harrods at Terminal Two are due to "recreate the opulence" of the plush Knightsbridge location in west London.

The company are planning big business investments for the year ahead.

He added: "I invest in retail, I invest in commodities, I invest in infrastructure - I invest in different kinds of [businesses]. We are like fund managers: when we decide on our investment, we check what suits our portfolio and then we make a decision."

This comes after last week's announcement that Harrods had partnered with British Airways in order to stage catwalk shows in the skies.

The shows will take place on the new A380 flight route from London to Johannesburg, featuring looks by Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, Jenny Packham and Ralph & Russo.
