Giles Deacon, a cycling lover himself, is calling on participants for a charity bike ride in support of homelessness charity St. Mungo’s.
Deacon has previously designed a bike for National Bike Week, but the quirky designer has now gone one step further and is encouraging people to use pedal power to tackle homelessness by taking part in a London to Oxford bike ride this summer.
Giles Deacon said:
‘I’m a really keen cyclist and have been cycling round London for the last 20 years. The best thing about travelling on two wheels is obviously the great exercise but also seeing things I wouldn't see from the car - not to mention a really ethical way to get around.
‘The London to Oxford Ride for St Mungo’s will be a fantastic day out whilst raising money to help support homeless people. Some of us see people sleeping on the streets most days and it’s vital that we do what we can to help. I’m urging you all to get on your bikes in July and show your support for St Mungo’s work.’
Giles Deacon runs his own label, Giles, and has regularly launched collections at London Fashion Week. He has also taken part in the Channel 4 entertainment series New Look Style the Nation and as a judge on Britain’s Next Top Model.
St Mungo’s has teamed up with Bike Events to offer the 60 mile ride through the English countryside on Sunday July 7th, and there are still spaces available, as the charity hopes to raise around £40,000 to support their work.
The route heads through the Chiltern Hills and across Christmas Common to Chalgrove before finishing at Oxpens Meadows. Live music and refreshments will be provided at the finish line to offer weary cyclists a well-earned rest and celebration.
It costs just £18.50 for an individual to take part in cycle ride, or £17.50 per person for a group of six or more. The course is suitable for regular reasonably fit cyclists. Transport to and from London is available for an additional cost.
St Mungo's opens doors for homeless people across London and the South, providing emergency shelter, supporting people in their recovery and helping prevent rough sleeping and homelessness.
