Women aren't happy unless they have a challenge it would seem, as it takes just eight weeks into a relationship to start trying to change their boyfriend's wardrobe choices.
A new study found that 55% of women admitted to trying to change their partner's style since they started dating, with the majority being women.
Those who admitted to this revealed how long before it took them to start making changes, for women it was just 8.2 weeks, whilst it took men a little longer at 5.5 months.
Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk who conducted the research, commented on the findings:
“Someone’s fashion style can be a huge part of who they are, but we wanted to see how it’s perceived in a relationship, and whether or not our ‘other halves’ ever try to change it. To see that so many people have tried to mould their other half’s style was interesting; and it seems that women are much more guilty of this than men!”
When asked what they had tried to change about their partner’s style, the top 3 aspects, according to the female respondents, were as follows:
1) Wear more ‘fashionable’ clothing
2) Wear more expensive clothing
3) Wear smarter clothing
In contrast, the top three aspects of their partner’s style that men had tried to change were the following:
1) Wear less revealing clothing
2) Wear more designer labels
3) Wear more revealing clothing
When asked how their partner felt about them trying to change their style, two fifths, 41%, of those who had attempted it admitted that their partner ‘didn’t agree with their suggestions;’ whilst a third, 33%, claimed that their partner was ‘happy to receive their guidance.’
Mark continued: “So long as your partner is happy to hear your suggestions, there’s no problem with trying to tweak their fashion style here and there. We’d recommend holding back on actually purchasing drastically different clothes until they’ve given you the go ahead though.”
