The 24-year-old star, who signed to Ford Models in Los Angeles at the age of 14, has admitted she embarked on a modelling career so she could make enough money to afford the footwear she had been "dying for" and to open a savings account.

Speaking to ES magazine about the reason behind her career in the fashion industry, the brunette beauty said: "Initially I didn't think of it as anything more than a fun activity and an opportunity to make money, to buy the shoes I'd been dying for and to put money away in a savings account."

However, her mother Kathleen Balgley didn't wish for Emily - who was cast in the 'Blurred Lines' music video in 2013 wearing just a skimpy thong - to only be recognised for her beauty, and would have preferred her daughter to have been a brain surgeon, although she taught Emily to embrace her assets.

She explained: "My mum said 'No, she'll have to be a brain surgeon', because she didn't like the idea that I would think that [my appearance] was the only thing that I was going to be valued for.

"She always told me never to feel sorry or apologetic or embarrassed by my body, to never apologise for my sexuality."

However, the 'Gone Girl' actress who began puberty at 11 years old and developed D-cup breasts a year later, can vividly remember a concerned family member sharing their concerns about an outfit she wore at the age of 13 in a school play which accentuated her figure.

Later that same year, Emily said another family member pulled her to one side and told her to "keep a low profile" as she grew into her body.

Speaking previously, she said: "Their comments felt much more personal and thus landed that much harder. I was still figuring out how to put a tampon in, never mind how to understand some of the more complicated aspects of womanhood."
