Dita Von Teese thinks it's "good manners" to always look "nice".
The 43-year-old burlesque star isn't "afraid" to be seen without her make-up but always feels more confident when she's made an effort.
She said: "I'm always in sunglasses, with my hair pulled back and my red lipstick on.
"It's not like I'm afraid of being seen without my make-up on but it's good manners to present yourself in a nice way.
"I also have more confidence when I'm made up."
However, Dita - who is dating visual designer Adam Rajcevich - admits she lets her appearance slide when she's at home.
She said: "I don't always wear make-up in the house.
"I walk around in one of my long dressing gowns - I'm not trotting around permanently in high heels."
The natural blonde always felt "very ordinary" when she was younger and finds it very interesting how anonymous she comes when she strips away her make-up and dons a blonde wig.
She said: "When I was younger, I felt disappeared. I felt very ordinary. And I am.
"For Halloween I wear a blonde wig and wear natural make-up and no one wants to talk to me. People look past me.
"It's a very interesting thing. I lose all my VIP privileges, I become very insecure and shy, different kinds of men talk to me."
