Diane von Furstenberg carried on her celebrations of 40 years of her iconic wrap dress at her AW14 showcase during New York Fashion Week yesterday.
Opening the collection, entitled Bohemian Wrapsody, was of course her signature wrap dress in black and gold jacquard, which was showcased on the runway by Karen Elson, but whilst the collection might have paid homage to her wrap dress it certainly didn’t dwell on it and there was no nostalgia.
The gold details ran through the entire collection and came to a finish when models closed the catwalk in a parade of gold wrap dresses. After Con Furstenberg did a lap arojund the runway, taking her trademark walking bow, she hit the stage with her golden bouquet of models and confetti rained down.
Backstage von Furstenberg told Style.com: "I used to take the wrap dress for granted, and sometimes I even resented it. Now that I decided to honour it, I'm proud of it, of its timelessness."
There were plenty of prints on show too, rosebuds, stars, moons and clouds were just some, and the looks were completed with an array of fur clutches.
Our standout piece was the gold star black chiffon gown with plunging neckline – this would look amazing hitting the red carpet.
Of course there were plenty of stars sat front row too, with appearances from Olivia Palermo, AnnaSophia Robb, Coco Rocha and the Hilton sisters too.
The designer explained in her show notes that the collection is: “A glamorous vagabond, she is on the run with her dreams and colour" and we can’t wait to be the free spirit wearing her velvet maxi skirts and printed sweater dresses.
