The 39-year-old actress left the world stunned when she traded her sandy tresses for a darker 'do last month but she has admitted the new look wasn't planned.
Speaking to Allure magazine, she said: "Oh, my God, I hadn't coloured my hair in six months, and I had been away working for two months. I'm in New York, and it looked a little dull, so I just thought, I'll go to [a drugstore] and buy a gloss. Only it turned my hair a dark, mud brown. I called anybody that I know in New York who could help me."
The former model is now undergoing treatment to get rid of the chocolate colour but has been told it will probably take around three trips to the salon to return to her natural shade.
She explained: "Serge Normant [Salon] literally saved me this morning. And now it's still slightly red, but it's getting better. I have to keep going back. The woman at the salon who is helping me said it's going to take three visits."
