Diane Kruger used to believe beauty was about being "slim and perfect."

The 37-year-old actress - who has just become the new face of Chanel skincare - used to think beauty was about having an immaculate appearance, but she now insists she doesn't mind gaining wrinkles because she believes slight imperfections make the person who they are.

Speaking to HELLO! magazine, she said: "When I was a little girl, my beauty ideal reflected the traditional norms: slim and perfect. But with experience and the trips that I was able o take all over the world, I became more open minded.

"I've learnt that there is no such thing as perfection and my career as an actress taught me that flaws make us more interesting. I find that a smooth, unmarked face is incapable of expressing anything that touches me."

The German star admits she's used to covering her face with make up in order to hide her small flaws, but she insists she'll always be beautiful as long as she looks after her skin.

She explained: " I think that beauty begins with beautiful skin. So, even though I enjoy caring for my skin, I also consider it an obligation. In my career as a model and then as an actress, I've had to deal with this every day.

"I am very strict about protecting my skin, which gets covered in so much make up. In practical terms, I need a toner to revive the radiance of my face, then a moisturising cream and an eye contour cream to lighten my dark circles."
