Cindy Crawford is "jealous" of the new generation of models who have been able to use social media to boost their profiles.
The 50-year-old catwalk legend - who signed to Elite Model Management at the age of 17 - envies stars such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne because they can directly communicate with their audience and easily self-promote, something she was never able to do during the supermodel era of the 90s.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan Online about her views on emerging as a fashion icon now, the brunette beauty said: "I'm so jealous, because I feel they have this direct way to communicate with their audience that my generation didn't have.
"I think it's a responsibility, but it's also a great tool, because they really can be their own publicists. They can present themselves the way that they want to be presented."
And 'Revenge' star Amber Valletta - who graced the cover of American Vogue at 16 years old - also holds a similar view to Cindy and feels uncomfortable using social media.
The 42-year-old actress-and-model explained: "It's uncomfortable for me that we kind of have to manufacture moments ... even though sometimes they are real moments. But at the same time, these girls are really smart and clever, and they figured out how to be brands."
