Cindy Crawford told Kaia Gerber not to be "afraid" to show her personality on the catwalk.
The 16-year-old made her debut at Fashion Week this year, which saw her appear in almost 20 runway shows, and the star has revealed her supermodel mother advised her to give an insight to her character when she is modelling.
Speaking to PEOPLE about the words of wisdom her 51-year-old catwalk icon has passed on to her, Kaia said: "My mom just said not to be afraid to show my personality on the runway."
And the style muse - who is the face of Marc Jacobs' fragrance Daisy - has also been advised to embrace her natural beauty.
She continued: "As for beauty, she has always told me that less is more."
Kaia has admitted it "definitely" helps having a career in the fashion business at the same time as her 18-year-old brother Presley, because it makes her feel "more comfortable" being on set with her sibling.
Asked about working in the same industry as her family, she said: "Yes, definitely! It always helps to be able to talk to someone who can relate to what you're going through. I love being on set with Presley because it makes both of us feel more comfortable and we always have a lot of fun."
Kaia has had a busy few months as she has been juggling her career with her studies, and the star has revealed she has learnt the "importance of downtime" in the business.
Speaking about the biggest lesson she has learnt, she said: "The importance of downtime."
Kaia has recently teamed up with Hudson Jeans and the star has admitted she has "always loved" the brand.
Speaking about the collaboration, she said: "Hudson has always fit me and been incorporated into my everyday style, so to work with a brand that I've always loved and to work, with a photographer like Patrick Demarchelier and a stylist like Maria Amalie, this was really special to me."
