Downtown Abbey's costume designer has created an exclusive chocolate dress that certainly looks good enough to eat.
Embracing the decadent era of the roaring twenties and taking style cues from the TV sensation and elegant design details of Lindt EXCELLENCE, the exclusive chocolate dress, Deco Diamond, really is fit for nobility.
In a collaboration of fashion and culinary art, the flapper-style dress was a collaboration of award winning artists; costume designer, Caroline McCall who won a BAFTA for her work on Downton Abbey Series 4; The Lindt Master Chocolatier and food artist, Paul Wayne Gregory. Using the Lindt EXCELLENCE chocolate as a medium was inspiration in itself and the completely handcrafted design that embodies chocolate and fashion crafts makes Deco Diamond a real work of art.
Drawing on her inspiration for the one off design, Caroline said: "Taking influence from such a stylish and ground-breaking period and using the iconic Lindt EXCELLENCE diamond symbol to realise my design was an exciting challenge and certainly a career first! The elegance of 1920s matched the sophistication of the brand perfectly and working with the The Lindt Master Chocolatier and Paul has meant that my initial concept has now resulted in a stunning piece of work."
Deco Diamond took three months to make using 60kg of Lindt EXCELLENCE chocolate; from the symmetrical intricate detailing to retaining the natural fluidity of the dress, it required perfection and a very sturdy hand. The dress captures the opulent spirit of the time in a feast for the senses that will be unveiled at The Chocolate Show.
The Lindt Master Chocolatier, Stefan Bruderer said: "From the first sketches that took inspiration from such a timeless period of decadence, we knew we had the makings of an exquisite design combining the high fashion and gastronomy. It was unique to work with another artist who is also passionate in their field, to combine our expertise and create something special. The artistry of Caroline's work created in Lindt EXCELLENCE - a chocolate refined by years of passion - is a delectable masterpiece that is sure to be a showstopper!"
The chocolate dress will be showcased in what will arguably be the most mouth-watering fashion show ever. The Chocolate Fashion Show will debut at the gala evening of The Chocolate Show on Thursday 16 October. There will be daily performances for the public at 5pm each day of the show 17-19 October, Olympia West (www.thechocolateshow.co.uk) Lindt will be selling and sampling a range of chocolate at stand 27.
