Burberry has promised to banish toxins from their clothing.
The luxury brand was one of the targets of Greenpeace protests last week after an investigation found that "hazardous chemicals" were present in its clothing, and have now issued a statement promising to remove harmful toxins from all factories by 2020.
Detox campaigner at Greenpeace International, Ize Smit, said: "Burberry's Detox commitment to rid us of these hazardous little monsters represents a new chapter in the story of toxic-free fashion."
The study in question determined that harmful substances were found in a total of 82 garments from brands including H&M and American Apparel, and Burberry were blasted for the suspected chemicals found in their metallic purple shirt, which was modelled by 11-year-old Romeo Beckham in their spring/summer 2013 campaign.
Evidence from the investigation showed that the shirt - which was produced in Tunisia - contained high levels of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPES). These man-made chemicals degrade to nonylphenols (NP) and can interfere with hormones.
Ize added to the Daily Mail newspaper: "In taking this landmark step, Burberry has listened to their customers' demands and joins the ranks of brands acting on behalf of parents everywhere to give this toxic nightmare the happy ending it deserves."
