Style icon Victoria Beckham has revealed she follows strict fashion advice given to her by her mum.
In her book That Extra Half Inch Victoria tells how she had to do some explaining when she broke her mothers rule on wearing stripes.
'One of my mother's style rules was never to wear horizontal stripes, and that always stayed with me - until recently,' she says in the new paperback edition of the book.
'Sorry, Mum, I just had to break a few rules here and there. I have found that a slinky striped sweater dress or fitted T can actually look very stylish.'
The updated version of That Extra Half An Inch style guide is due to hit the shops in September.
Victoria's fashion sense was recently criticised when her new DVB jeans were launched last week.
Rock and Republic's UK distributor, Robert de Keyser of Dekeyser Fashions, described them as 'cheap' and 'over-priced'.
"Whatever Victoria learned from Rock and Republic appears to have been lost," he said.
Victoria refused to rise to the attack. Her spokesman said: "Victoria had a happy working relationship with Rock and Republic and she's not going to start being negative about them now."
