Although little reminder is needed, Burton, creative director for Alexander McQueen was the designer of that wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton now the Duchess of Cambridge and seen by over two billion people world wide.
The award follows the recent news that the Duchess herself being named the most stylish woman in Britain by the same magazine, making this one of the most significant years for royal style since Princess Diana was alive and regarded with such iconic grace and fashion.
Both Kate's wedding dress and the bridesmaid gown worn so beautifully by her sister Pippa, have inspired copy cat dresses to crop up on highstreets all over the world, cementing this as one of the most recognised dresses in history, not to mention seeing Miss Burton, 37, become one of the most in-demand names in fashion at the moment.
Given the enormity of the task in hand, Burton has recently revealed that not even her parents were aware that she had been commissioned to design the most famous dress of the year.
Nobody but a small group of colleagues were allowed in on the secret, she closely guarded for months.
In a recent interview, Burton also admitted that she used the opening of the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition as the excuse for a lot of the appointments and meetings she missed in the run up to the fittings with the newest royal.
