Samantha Cameron took the role of Ambassador to the British Fashion Council last night (15 June) and presented the evening's most coveted crown - 'Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year 2011.'
Her attendance in her role with the British Fashion Council will be an enormous asset to 'Fashion Scotland' and help us shape our international image in the world's fashion stage.
Speaking at the event Samantha Cameron said:"I'm thrilled to be here in Glasgow at the Scottish Fashion Awards in my role as Ambassador to the British Fashion Council. These awards celebrate the very best in Scottish fashion and remind us that Scotland is home to not only inspirational designers but also a very important textile industry."
Founder and Chairman of the event Tessa Hartmann spoke of her delight at Camerons support,
"Her attendance in her role with the British Fashion Council will be an enormous asset to 'Fashion Scotland' and help us shape our international image in the world's fashion stage.
Hartmann also feels that the support will help credit international perception of Scotlands fashion industry,
"this event goes beyond a celebration for one night. This is about sustaining a highly credible international perception of Scotland's fashion and textile industry, with our winners enjoying increased growth as a result.
By raising the national and international awareness of this sector, along with fashion retail, design and it's star performers, the Scottish Fashion Awards now contributes significant economic leverage by providing enhanced brand value of the Scottish companies who are nominated this evening - not just locally but globally! This is what the Scottish Fashion Awards is all about," said Hartmann.
Cameron presented the highly sought after 'Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year 2011' award to Jonathan Saunders, a fitting tribute to a designer that's had a hugely successful year internationally with his signature graphic silk prints in his eponymous line.
The presence of such high flyers in the fashion world confirmed the awards as a globally recognised and 'red' carpet event, which appears a permanent fixture on Swarovski's Official Red Carpet Calendar.
