It is considered the one to be a part of by designers and the one that editors, journalists and bloggers will do anything to attend.
Already words including bright, breezy, bold, colour, pastels, patterns, loose, clean and quirky have been used to describe the fashion for the spring/summer season 2012. And from the runway shows and collections, the most significant style is relaxed.
The week kicked off with a number of designers proving that pieces do not need to be tight to flatter the female form. Designers have been concentrating on light materials, length and loose fitted pieces to set the trend for next year.
Max Azria and Tadashi Shoji introduced breezy sheer, skirts and dresses, with the much loved maxi-dress being at the front of the inspiration. Light materials were combined with pastel prints and bold designs to channel retro imagery and connote the feeling of warmth, happiness and bright summer days.
Techniques including draping and slashing layers of material were popular among runway designers.
Either the material was draped in a flattering manner over the torso or well-positioned slashed material blossomed into more colour below or simply bare flesh to excite us at the prospect of sun and searing heat after the upcoming a/w frost and chill.
Celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, an established embassador to all things fashion, and style newbie AnnaLynne McCord reflected the runway theme by attending shows in beautifully bright, block-coloured trousers.
Much like many seasons before, bold colours were high on the style agenda. Designer Jason Wu decided to draw direct inspiration from the pop art culture to hone in his prints, patterns and colours in clean, quirkly lines that proved popular with other luxury labels and of course, the highstreet.
Even a nervous Victoria Beckham branched out from her signature pencil silouhette dresses in favour of strong colours, lines and even a loose, over-sized parka jacket.
From the runway collections so far, it would appear that fashion is embracing feminity for next season. The dresses, skirts, pastels and prints are nothing we wouldn't expect from a s/s fashion week, but there is still something fresh about what we're seeing.
Pinks, greens, blues and canary yellow are taking centre stage and being accessorised with sequins, beads and pearls. It's almost back to basics for womenswear, rekindling it's love affair with fashionable fabrics and bold beauty but in an unstated, mellow manner.
