This year, Britain has been all about style with its capital being named the fashion capital of the world and having two of the most high profile weddings of a generation taking place. With Queen-in-waiting, Kate Middleton and already Queen of the catwalk Kate Moss walking down the aisle, talks of dresses, designers and diamonds have been exhausted.
All that's left to do is find out what the runway has in store for us for s/s 2012...
Notably more edgy than its American friends, British fashion likes to experiment more with design. Whether it is taking new shapes or fabric combinations, there is always something to wet the appetite of even the most experimental of fashionistas.
One of the main themes from Irishman Paul Costelloe was inspired by 60s fashion. Delicate, dainty baby doll dresses which accentuated the female form and and feminimity. Much like we have been seeing across the calendar, the colour scheme was bright with pinks and greens stealing the show. Of course, the s/s texture was vintage in design adding depth and detail to the simply lined pieces.
With mixed reviews, highstreet chain Topshop's theme was ancient Egypt. Their collection for next spring is heavily influenced by gold, head dresses and hyroglifics with a lot of their pieces bringing the Cleopatra look a little too hard. Love it or hate it, the store did what it did best: choosing an interesting design mantra and sticking to it religiously, even if their sports-themed shapes didn't always work too well with the look. The jury is still out on this line, we'll need to see more of the collection before we make up our minds.
Though it is nothing new to the runway, Julien MacDonald impressed with his asian inspired show at the weekend. The bright colours and beautiful prints were everything we might expect for the spring and summer months, but was delivered in a fresh way, getting us through the thought of another snow filled winter.
Queen of punk Vivienne Westwood's Red Label also paid homage to the female form in some flattering shapes and details in her less expensive range. Through her much favoured draping techniques to flatter the body in her typically egdy style.
It wasn't just the designers that were making the most of the style city this weekend, as celebrities from both Britain and across the pond were showing their support. Mum-to-be Beyonce was in town to host a fashion party for House of Dereon for Selfridges, as well as boasting an impressive star-studded front row.
One of the most talked about shows of the weekend has to be heritage brand Mulberry. The show was attended by everyone from Kate Moss and Kristen Stewart to Olivia Palermo and Eliza Doolittle.
The collection focused on pastel colours and delicate prints to ease us into the warmer weather. One of our favourite pieces was a pastel pink, green and yellow,horizontally- striped, ice lolly-esque maxi dress with an olive green, cropped leather jacket, showing that simple lines can be just as stylish as lots of detail.
Like many other labels, Mulberry showed their relaxed side with a line of sportwear inspired pieces. The hooded jackets in creams and golds looked stylish without being in danger of being tacky. Colour of the day: Olive green.
And it's not over yet, with even more design, style and fashion coming our way this week...
With its already growing profile, London intends to capitalise on their increasing popularity and engaging with an even wider audience than this year.
Though it may seem as though 2011 is a year that cannot be topped for the fashion capital, the 2012 Olympic games is just around the corner with the world's eyes transfixed on our tiny island.
Fashion will be both in the stands but also on the track as the home athletes will all be wearing tracksuits and sportswear created by a team of home-grown designers.
Roll on 2012...
