Hedi Slimane will take over at the helm of YSL
Since the announcement of the departure of Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Lauren, speculation has been rife of who will take over this coveted role.
There was plenty of rumours of a fashion game of chess with plenty of movement between the houses. It has now been confirmed that Hedi Slimane will take over as Creative Director.
The French designer and photographer led the menswear division of the label from 1997 to 2000 before he moved on to design at Dior Homme. He will return to YSL with 'total creative responsibility for the brand iamge and its collections'.
Fancois-Henri Pinault, CEO of the PPR group that owns Yves Saint Laurent, told WWD: ‘As one of the most important French fashion houses, Yves Saint Laurent today possesses formidable potential, which I am confident will be successfully harnessed and revealed through the vision of Hedi Slimane.’
His new role will see him create his first womenswear colelction range with the pre-collections in June. He has however expressed that he will still be working with fashion photography too, which he has been doing for the past five years, it is expected that he will shoot the YSL campaigns himself.

Slimane replaces Stefano Pilati at the helm of YSL. The Italian designer parted ways with the brand after he showcased his final collection for autumn/winter 2012, the designer paid homage to classic designs and cuts from the fashion house. He was also greeted with a standing ovation as he took his final bow.
