Parents’ busy working lives mean over a third of grandmothers are now picking up on school-run duties at least once a week; and they’re looking great at it, in a true reflection of their generation’s poise.
According to new research out today, it’s not just the likes of Abbey Crouch’s gorgeous mother Karen Clancy (who has spoken of joining the school run) to be credited with perfecting school gate glamour.
In a survey by online retailer isme.com, over half of the 50+ women interviewed say they make a conscious effort to look good during the school-run. They must be getting something right; 34% of them say they have actually been mistaken for a mum by other parents, and what’s more, one in ten even admitted that a dad has chatted them up whilst they waited in the playground.
But Britain’s gracious grans aren’t out to show up their daughters – far from it. The majority have said they consciously aim to dress well without looking over the top, or calling too much attention to themselves. Over one-in-four say they plan what they are going to wear in advance.
According to Julie Donnelly, Head of Womenswear Buying at isme.com: “British women seem to be enjoying a much more hands-on approach with their grandchildren. Our research has shown how they’ve embraced the opportunity to help their children with parenting responsibilities, and are putting their years of experience as stylish mums themselves to good use. They’ve proven to us once again how it’s possible to look great, this time at the gates, no matter what your age.”
