The accomplished designer was remembered at last night's British Fashion awards with the accolade for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design.
During his lifetime McQueen won the council's British Designer of the Year four times and this latest award “celebrates the achievement of a designer whose work has had an exceptional impact on global fashion,” says the BFC.
Film maker Nick Knight debuted a tribute documenting the highlights of McQueen's most important pieces.
Knight told Style.com the film ”is being styled by Edward Enninful and will feature black models only. We felt it was important to have the clothes featured one last time on flesh and blood before the museum takes them away.
I worked a lot with McQueen, so, yes, it is an emotional experience. But I hope this film will play proper homage to his career, and the absolute genius he was.”
The film was scored by McQueen's collaborator and confidant Björk, who also performed at his memorial service earlier on in the year.
The style icon is soon to posthumously take over The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a collection of his pieces.
