Practical gifts top this year's Christmas lists

This Christmas all men and women want are useful presents.

This Christmas, after a difficult year of belt tightening, most people are wishing for life’s little essentials they would normally buy themselves but with an added touch of luxury.

They want underwear, socks, pots and pans to name a few.

The want for these practical gifts comes after months of financial struggle; people would rather be given things for the home or for personal use rather than luxurious expensive items.

The designer brands-for-less retailer’s research also exposed that one in four men are asking for underwear and socks for Christmas and 57% of them put a book or DVD at the top of their lists.

On the top women’s wish lists were perfume, books, DVD’s and beauty essentials.

Helen Gunter, from TK Maxx, said: “This Christmas, after a difficult year of belt tightening, most people are wishing for life’s little essentials they would normally buy themselves but with an added touch of luxury.  If you shop around you’ll find some great value lux-essentials without compromising on quality by choosing things like designer boxers, Italian soft leather gloves, cashmere socks or their favourite designer fragrances.”

As well the study revealed that 65 per cent of the 1,055 people surveyed aged 25-34 were most likely to be direct about their Christmas lists, whereas the 16 to 24 age group are still more materialistic about what they want.
