Cate Blanchett has used her fashion connections to secure funding from Giorgio Armani for the Sydney Theatre Company of which she is to become co-director.
The Hollywood actress has persuaded her designer friend to become a patron of the company and donate one of the largest ever individual financial gifts in Australia's performing arts history.
Multi-millionaire Armani is a well-known admirer of the Oscar-winning actress and already has an agreement to dress her for her public appearances.
The funding he has provided will help the STC to tour overseas and to develop new talent according to a spokesperson for the organisation.
In a statement, Blanchett described Armani as one of the most "meticulous, exacting and creative" people she had met and expects that his relationship with the theatre would be "inspiring and expansive".
Blanchett will be co-artistic directors of the STC for a three-year period alongside her husband Andrew Upton.
Armani will be heading to Australia next month for a dinner hosted by Blanchett, her husband to finalise the deal, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
