Survey reveals Audrey Hepburn's LBD every woman's fashion essential

Research conducted by the popular highsatreet store Peacocks, reveals that the Little Black Dress made famous by Hepburn is still considered to be the number one essential in a ladies' wardrobe.

It also reveals that all of the women asked admitted to owning atleast one little black dress, with 40% of women saying that they considered their style icon to be Hepburn above modern day fashionistas including Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga.

Lisa Bond, Peacocks' Marketing Director said: "Fashion fads come and go but it's no surprise that the little black dress is still a woman's number one style essential and the item every woman reaches for when faced with the dilemma over what to wear.

"The appeal of Audrey Hepburn as a style icon is cross generational and it's great to see her influence continue 50 years on with her timeless classic LBD appealing to women from 18 to 80."

With increasing numbers of women saying that their style is more inspired by the classics than it is the catwalk and 70% of ladies saying the prefer the knee length Breakfast at Tiffany's LBD over the maxi and mini dresses, it is clear that Hepburn and the 20s are still huge influences to the fashion industry.

Not only do women consistently chose the Black dress as their 'go to' for special occasions, but 45% wear them for their slimming qualities and flattering effects. When asked why ladies favour the dress, they also said that it made for the perfect blank canvas that could be easily updated with modern twists and trends in accessories and shoes.

Whether it's girls in their teens or ladies in their seventies, the black dress is considered a classic across all generations. All that needs to be decided is whether you're going classic Tiffany's with a choker this season, or bringing the look into 2011 with some bold, colourful accessories?
