50 something ladies find jeans are too young in style...

43% of those asked even ranked finding a pair of good jeans that fit well higher on the stress-o-meter than buying a house.

Though it may sound over dramatic, given that this is one of the most popular pieces of casual wear, mature women feel it is an 'unbearably stressful' as a result of poor fit classic jeans.

The increase in younger styles of jeans including low-rise hipsters and skinny jeans has led to the over 50s giving up on finding a comfortable style of denim and instead turning to tummy control jeans.

Sales of tummy control jeans are soaring and outselling standard jeans through sites such as online retailers Isme.

However much you might spend on a pair of jeans, an ill-fitting pair can take you from fashionable to frumpy in seconds

Exclusive brands such as "Not your Daughter's Jeans" are tailored to suit and flatter the more mature figure and the company reporst increased sales of 20%

Jeans designed with a higher waist and discreet front panel have the effect of giving a flatter front while at the same time lifting the bottom, countering a sagging bottom or 'bum cleavage' that begins to worry the more mature woman

Shapeologist Jackie Lewis, comments: "However much you might spend on a pair of jeans, an ill-fitting pair can take you from fashionable to frumpy in seconds.

"For trousers and jeans it’s all about the waist, which thickens as you age – if mature women simply buy a larger size to accommodate their waist, they find that the trousers are too large on the hips and sag around the bottom.

"Lynda Bellingham 62, Loose Women presenter agrees: "We’ve all been there, trying to squeeze into the skinniest of jeans or doing up a pair to find they create that dreaded muffin top.

"I have found a go-to pair with isme.com’s ‘Not Your Daughter’s Jeans’ – I even wear them on stage in Calendar Girls as they are so flattering.

"Like so many people, I am tired of the high street’s ‘one-size-fits-all’ philosophy – that’s why I’m thrilled to be part of a brand that realises that 50+ women still want fashionable clothes, outstanding choice and prices to suit all budgets – and one that understands what looks good on a more mature woman’s shape."

23% of 50-something ladies complain that there is little fashion choice for them and they struggle to find something that doesn't make them look fat, frumpy or doesn't fit them properly.

Two thirds believe that the high street does not successfully cater for the different body shapes and needs to be reinvented with people wanted to see more styles and sizes more readily avaiable.

It is not just issues with jeans that have been highlighted through this survey, as ladies are complaining that there are very few suitable dresses with sleeves to hide their arms. 11% feel that hemlines are too short, too long or just not in fashion.
