The theme for last night’s Met Gala was PUNK: Chaos to Couture and whilst many of the evenings attendees did channel the theme with their outfit choices, there was plenty who didn’t/
We’ve taken a look at the punk ladies already, but here we take a look at the beautiful, delicate pieces that were also seen on the evening.
First up, one of my favourites, Blake Lively. The former Gossip Girl actress sadly walked the red carpet alone, where was her handsome husband? But, she looked beautiful none-the-less.
The look was high glamour in her Gucci gown with a grey bodice and black flowing skirt. The dramatic skirt with train featured beautiful feather and embroidered details.
Blake completed the look with a ponytail, and stunning Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings. Gorgeous.
Katie Holmes also chose a graceful look at last night’s event. She wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection ivory halter gown. A beautiful long train proved that this look was still standout despite the plain detailing and the fact it wasn’t very punk.
Smokey eyes and a slicked back bouffant did add a hint of punk though.
Naomie Harris’ beautiful violet gown was a standout look. The Bond girl looked stunning in her Donna Karan Atelier gown. Draped lines across the fitted bodice fell into a feathered and dramatic skirt with a long train.
Marion Cotillard of course wore head-to-toe Christian Dior. She chose an asymmetrically hemmed Spring 2013 dress. She added houndstooth pumps to give the look a pop of punk. But 40s-inspired curls and barely there make-up finish this questionable look. It feels like a mish-mash of styles and not in a good way.
Jennifer Lawrence on the other hand was a vintage vision in Christian Dior. A mid-length prom-style jewel-encrusted dress was heightened with the addition of the black birdcage veil. Her flawless make-up only elevated this stunning look from the Oscar winner.
Alexa Chung chose a beautiful Erdem dress from the Fall 2013 collection last night. The sheer dress adds a touch of sexiness to her look. She sticks to what she knows and likes, and like always she looks beautiful.
Heidi Klum did surprise me on the red carpet last night, we all know that she loves to play dress up, but the Supermodel shunned the punk theme and went for glamour in a Marchesa gown.
The structural white and silver gown from the Fall 2013 collection shows off her toned figure perfectly.
Emmy Rossum chose a bold look for the evening’s event. Her Donna Karan Atelier gown was soft and sequinned, but her hair and make-up definitely screamed punk.
The sheer details, beads and draping was definitely on the pretty side, but she added just enough punk to make this look work with her messy braided faux-hawk and super-shadowed smokey eye.
Kylie Minogue looked as beautiful as ever in her monochrome Moschino gown. She added a little touch of punk with her safety-pin drop earrings but that’s as far as it went. She chose bold accessories with the look. Bouncy side-swept curls and a smokey eye completed her look.
Amber Heard oozed sex appeal in her Emilio Pucci gown which was created especially for her. Which is fairly obvious really, the gown looks exquisite on her. She walked the red carpet with the designer Peter Dundas, and showed off his creation perfectly. The lace backless gown with beaded embroidery was beautiful. She looked gorgeous.
Simple make-up and side-swept glossy curls completed her look.
Gwyneth Paltrow was another starlet who completely shunned the punk theme of the evening with her Valentino Couture pink gown.
The custom-made gown featured long sleeves and a sheer panel across the chest and shoulders. I really wish she had worn this gown to the LA Premiere of Iron Man 3 and saved the Antonio Berardi sheer-panelled sexy dress for last night – definitely more punk than this sweet look.
Bella Heathcote looked adorable in a Chanel Spring 2013 Couture gown. The black-and-white lace dress with ankle-grazing hemline is simply beautiful. The sharp shoulders definitely add an edge to the look, as does her graphic eyeliner. Just the perfect amount of punk for the petite starlet.
The Olsen twins of course bypassed the punk theme, choosing their signature look of vintage and oversized for the Met Gala.
Ashley Olsen chose a beaded orange Dior Couture dress with sheer overlay, and Mary-Kate chose a Chanel beaded drop-waist dress which she killed with a fur-trim robe. The dress on its own would have looked a thousand times better.
Do you think these stars should have taken the punk theme more seriously?
