Jennifer Aniston may be known for favouring the Little Black Dress on the red carpet, but it seems that her glasses come out top in the style stakes.
The 'Friends' actress has been voted the top role model for wearing glasses as we move from the nerdy stereotypes to something a whole lot sexier.
Eva Mendes came in close second in the poll, and if she can bag a man as hot as Ryan Gosling it's easy to see why she was voted.
According the survey of 900 spectacle wearers, these celebs have helped make the need for glasses less of a burden and more of a fashion choice. So much so, that 94% of them now have more than one pair of glasses and 47% have three or four pairs. This is so they can alternate, for instance wearing formal styles of frames for work and fashion-led versions for a night out.
For men in specs, Michael Caine and Johnny Depp are the icons they most want to look like.
And, taking a cue from Tinie Tempah, around one in seven, admit they would probably wear glasses even if they didn't need them because they liked the look so much.
It is a far cry from when a pair of glasses signified unattractiveness or being merely academic in the eyes of others. 55 per cent say they thought it made them look intelligent and 22 per cent that it made them look attractive while only 13 per cent thought glasses made them look unattractive and 10 per cent that they appeared 'nerdy’.
"Attitudes towards glasses have changed," says Kevin Cornils, Glasses Direct CEO, who conducted the research. "People are extremely positive about them, choosing to wear them for work because they feel they provide gravitas, but also for off duty moments, where they are seen as an expression of personal style."
