There were plenty of stylish looks that took to the red carpet at the Bafta Awards on Sunday evening, and some that we really want to recreate.
Angie Smith, Venus Celebrity Stylist shares some tips on how to get the look for ourselves.
Power dressing as seen on celeb beauts Angelina Jolie and Ruth Wilson added a refreshing sexiness to last night’s red carpet. To get the look, choose a suit with an ultra-feminine edge with trousers that fall just on the ankle. Exude confidence by pushing up your sleeves to show off your forearms and opt for a perfectly fitted shirt to keep your waistline defined. Pair with neutral make up to soften the overall finish, keeping it coolly feminine, not masculine, and a pair of killer heels to lengthen your legs.
Old-school elegance was given a modern day twist on the red carpet by Lupita Nyong’O, recalling the original Hollywood glamour in a stunning emerald green strapless dress. When recreating the look at home, be sure to bring your look right up to date by giving vintage styles a subtle, contemporary twist. My favourite way to do this is by accentuating a detail from your dress with a coordinating accessory, not forgetting the golden rule that less is more! Try taking inspiration from your belt and add matching wrist cuffs or co-ordinate your lip and nail colour to complete the look.
If you’re feeling fearless, go for a sensational, statement piece for an ultra-modern talking point. I love choosing one key accessory for my clients as it’s a fun way to reveal another side of your personality. A statement clutch or intricate necklace works well, and the gorgeous Samantha Barks shows us how it’s done with a double strand of pearls which made the perfect finishing touch to her minimal Calvin Klein gown. Always make sure your accessories complement your look, not overpower it - the trick is to add interest and detail without distracting attention from yourself or your dress.
