Brix Smith-Start wants us to make sensible fashion choices

You’re working with Lenor on their new Forever Fashion campaign; tell us a bit about that?

The campaign teaches us that we no longer have to hold back on wearing our favourite items. By looking after our favourite clothes we can wear them every single day. Thanks to Lenor we no longer have to worry about repeated washing damage, bobbling or softness. Proper conditioning with a fabric softener such as Lenor can help fight the signs of the ageing and protect clothes from fraying and pilling. By simply changing our washing habits we can prolong the life of our wardrobe which gives us the freedom to look and feel fabulous every single day.

Why is important that we become a nation of ‘Forever Fashion’?

If you’ve got an item of clothing that makes you feel fabulous then you should definitely wear it. We all have our go to items so it’s important to protect them from wearing away.

Fashion as we know moves so quickly, what are your thoughts on shops like Primark and Forever 21 who create quick fashion at cheap prices?

There is room for everybody and they serve the purpose of instant gratification. I’m sure we’d all prefer to wear designer clothes but these are great if you want to buy into a seasonal trend.

Which pieces do you think every woman should spend a bit more money on?

Definitely jeans, a great blazer, cashmere sweater, well-fitting yet stylish underwear, a beautiful boyfriend style cotton shirt and perfect nude heels.

What pieces do you think we can afford to save on?

Jewellery, hats, scarves, little accessories that will compliment your outfit but don’t cost a fortune.

Do you own any clothes that you don’t truly love?

Yes, I’m always moving ahead with my fashion for the most part so some things are for me, past their sell by date.

I know some people who take back pieces if they haven’t worn it within two weeks, do you have any sort of similar thing to ensure you have only pieces that you love?

I’m an excellent buyer and shopper so I rarely make mistakes. A lady once tweeted me saying she loved a dress I wore on Gok’s Fashion Fix so I sent it to her. I always give away my old clothes; I’ve even done it through twitter.

We’re moving into Autumn/Winter, which pieces would you suggest we buy for the season ahead?

Monochromatic, bold colours, masculine tailoring, lady like dresses and structured handbags.

What’s your favourite trend for autumn?

I love hounds tooth and dragons blood red for the new season and I love anything monochromatic

Are there any new designers that you think we should keep an eye out for?

Zoe Jordan, daughter of Eddie Jordan is great for her commerciality and accessibility. But the word on the street is that the real rising superstar in British fashion is Irish designer JW Anderson.

Tell us a bit about your new show Shopaholic Showdown? Why did you want to get involved with this?

We take four very different women each week who believe that they have great personal style and are great shoppers. We give them a style challenge and then let them loose in a dream store or ultimate shop but they only have 20 minutes to pull the clothes and style themselves. Once the 20 minutes is up they come back and we judge them.  I’m looking for people who fit the brief without losing their personal style and the winner will win the entire wardrobe of clothes they have picked throughout the day.
