Elizabeth Olsen chose Chanel Couture for the Bafta Awards
The Baftas took place last night in London, and like always the rain was pouring. But there was flashes of colour on the red carpet in attempt to brighten the spirits of the evening.
Overall, the style of the Baftas was simple and understated. Some Couture, embellished pieces from the likes of Amy Adams and Elizabeth Olsen (pictured above) stood out, but the red carpet was awash with simple dresses in beautiful colours.
Marion Cotillard opted for a bright yellow Christian Dior couture piece, the fitted bodice was contrasted with a oversize detail on the hip, the one-sided detail revealed the mesh panelling. Which shows that the dress Jennifer Lawrence wore to the SAG Awards was not in fact not ripped.
Andrea Riseborough also opted for yellow, wearing a Vivienne Westwood Couture piece.
Amy Adams' gothic blac lace and chantilly Elie Saab Couture gown was just the right amount of dramatic. She paired the dress with some beautiful pink drop earrings and a slicked high-bun completed one of the best looks of the evening.
Elizabath Olsen's Chanel Couture peplum gown was another standout. She kept all eyes on the gown pairing it with loose waves and a simple clutch. A red lip would have given the look some extra punch though.
Jessica Chastain chose a simple but striking blue gown from Roland Mouret. Jessica is most definitely the Queen of figure-hugging curve-enhancing gowns this award season, and last night was no different. The sapphire gown with structured one-shouldered origami-style bodice looks divine. She paired the look with a bold red lip and side-swept glossy waves.
Then, we're met with a sea of simple gowns.
Juno Temple opted for a cream and white Stella McCartney gown with black detailing along the straps. This was a complete turnaround from the winner of the EE Rising Star Bafta, who usually opts for more bold looks.
Sarah Jessica Parker was a big shocker of the evening in her Elie Saab black jumpsuit. You can usually expect something big from SJP but she kept her look slick with sleek hair and minimal accessories.
Jennifer Garner was on hand to support her husband Ben Affleck at the awards in a monochrome Roland Mouret gown. She's been delightful this awards season and has yet to put a foot wrong in the style stakes.
Anne Hathway also opted for a monochrome looks, hers from Burberry. She chose a column gown - very on-trend at the moment- with silver embellishment on the top. The high-neck gown works perfectly with her cropped hair. Anne has been experimenting with plenty of different lip colours whilst on the red carpet and this time she chose a bubblegum pink - I love it. Very girls and sweet.
Laura Whitmore was on hand last night for presenting duties, but still managed to look absolutely beautiful doing so. She chose an Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2012 Couture keyhoel jumpsuit, which was originally presented as a dress. Laura went for big Hollywood curls, a bold red pout, Wonder Woman style cuffs and an array of rings. Defintiely one of my favourites of the evening. Read my interview with Laura Whitmore now.
Finally, it was Jennifer Lawrence who has finally made an impression on me during Awards Season. She's so far made it on to my Worst Dressed list and hasn't left much to be desired - even though she's had her pick of stunning Christian Dior gowns. Her simple pink gown, again from Christian Dior, features beautiful embellishment across the bustier, which cascades down the bodice. The only problem was her slicked back hair - it's just not a look I think Jennifer can pull off. Loose waves would have worked perfectly here.
