Dubbed Posh Spice during her days in 90s girl band the Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham has come a long way from her leather cat suits to be recognised as an international style icon. She has been on the cover of numerous fashion magazines and has walked down the catwalk for Roberto Cavalli, but it is her own style that has inspired hundreds of fans to dress just like her.
During her Spice Girl days Victoria didn't express much style out of the bounds of her Posh Spice character. But after the band split in 2001, Victoria began to show her unique sense of style. Now with her latest dress collection flying off the shelves at Selfridges, it appears that she is finally commanding respect from the fashion world.
Straight out the Spice Girls, Victoria seemed to get a little lost with her style. She appeared out and about in a crazy mix of bright colours and a lot of leather, and her hair had gone from short and cropped to long extensions with blonde highlights. Victoria's love for bold Italian designers, Versace and Gucci, have led her to public humiliation on many occasions.
She has been snapped wearing numerous fashion faux pas over her years in front of the camera. Who can forget the Karl Lagerfeld styled outfit she wore for this years Glamour Awards? The corset, biker gloves and no bottom half to the outfit? Or the leopard print mini dress and hot pink bra combo at MTV Music Awards last year.
Apart from these odd mistakes, by 2007 Victoria had tamed her style a bit, favouring for more structured and formal outfits, particularly from designer, Roland Mouret. Even her hair inspired the nation, when she cut it and unleashed the 'pob' on the world. Hundreds of women everywhere rushed out to their hairdressers clutching pictures of the inspiring cut. Since that moment her hair has been a much-talked about topic. Her latest pixie cut stole the show at New York Fashion week in September.
But now it is all about her latest venture as a designer that's got everyone talking. She has always designed, along with husband David, through their DVB collection, but this is her first solo collection. She spoke to the Mail Online, saying: "I've been working on this for 34 years. I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Then along came the Spice Girls which opened a lot of doors for me. And, let's be honest, closed a lot."
Overall her collection echoes Victoria's now modest style, with below-the-knee hemlines and figure-hugging seams. Over the years Victoria's style has changed and matured into something that a lot of women can relate to.
There is definitely nothing WAGish about her, even though she is married to footballer, David Beckham. Victoria may have made a few fashion faux pas over the years, but we don't think that anyone else has really inspired the nation as much as she has. Whether it is her latest hair cut or her choice of outfit on the red carpet, Victoria will continue to have people talking about her and aspiring to look like her.
