Its a day of fashion here at First Gossip. Ive got plenty to tell you about Ang Lees love of Cartier, Top Chefs hottie host Padma Lakshmis plans for the Windy City and the latest trend straight from the set of Sex and the City.
Diamonds Are Forever: I hit the premiere of Ang Lees new movie, Lust, Caution, last night at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science in Beverly Hills. Set in Shanghai during World War II, Lust is absolutely stunning. It is probably the most beautiful movie of the year. Seriously, I felt like I was watching a painting come to life.
Part of the film's luster is a 6.1-carat diamond ring from Cartier given to Wang Jiazhi (Tang Wei) by her politico lover (Tony Leung) (above, worn by Wei in the movie). Lee had the one-of-a-kind bauble shipped to Shanghai for filming soon after it was discovered in a Cartier vault in Paris.
Windy Woman: Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is on the list for the Vogue-hosted opening of the new UGG Australia store next Thursday in Chicago. How sexy is Lakshmi? She can even make a pair of Uggs look good.
Sex Sells: Let the Carrie Bradshaw trends begin! No doubt youve been looking at all those photos of Sarah Jessica Parker & Co. shooting the Sex and the City movie all over NYC. The fashion houses are already getting in on the game. As soon as SJP was spotted holding Salvatore Ferragamos pheasant-feather bag, the Italian fashion house spit out a press release. The bag goes for $1,500.
Constance Craving: Is it just me, or does it seem like every actress does double duty as a designer? Constance Marie, who plays Angie on The George Lopez Show, is the latest to make a foray into fashion with her debut line launching today at Mervyns. And for all you L.A. locals, Marie will be doing an in-store appearance on Saturday at Mervyns in Montebello.
More Monique: Celebrity dressmaker Monique Lhuillier opens her new Melrose Place boutique in L.A. next Wednesday. Expected to hit the bash are a slew of starlets, including Heidi Klum, Hilary Duff, America Ferrera, Dita Von Teese and Rebecca Gayheart. You should also think about bidding on the Monique Lhuillier dress that my TV Diva columnist cohort, Kristin Dos Santos, wore to the Emmys. Go for it at clothesoffourback.org. Proceeds benefit several childrens charities. (FYI: Ill have more on Clothes Off Our Back tomorrow from a little chat I had earlier today with Jane Kaczmarek, who cofounded the nonprofit with hubby Bradley Whitford.)
Stop the Madness! Now, for a little venting about the fashion publicist who sent me a press release the other day about Lindsay Lohan. She wanted to make sure her client got props for an item Ms. Lohan was spotted wearing the other day near her rehab facility. Come on, people. Its bad enough the paparazzi are staking out her every rehabbin move, but trying to make a buck from what shes wearing these days seems, at least to me, beyond shallow.
