Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue

Kylie is the queen of re-invention and even as she gets older she still knows how to keep up with the latest fashions without a hint of desperation.

Kylie was a massive icon for teenage girls in the 80s and we all wanted her curly perm, slashed sweatshirts and boyfriend Jason Donovan. And even as she heads into her 40s we still love her style.

These days Kylie has moved away from the cute, girl next door look she had in the 80s and the sexed-up gold hot pants of the 90s and she's adopted a much more elegant and sophisticated look while still looking fresh and youthful.

The red carpet is where Kylie comes into her own. She loves designers such as D&G, Alexander McQueen and and rarely makes it onto the 'worst dressed' lists.

At last year's Elle Style Awards Kylie looked stunning in this grecian style Dolce and Gabana dress. The full length gown showed of Kylie's amazing figure without being too revealing.

The grecian look works brilliantly for Kylie and this sweeping purple chiffon gown she wore at the G'Day USA gala in January is another example of how she carries off the elegant look.

The dress was designed by Aussie label J'Aton and is typically Kylie. The full length style and gorgeous colour is great for a formal look while the high leg slit and sheer fabric gives it that sexy Kylie twist.

Kylie wore yet another killer D&G dress to the premiere of her documentary film White Diamonds last year.

This glittering silver and white corset gown showed that Kylie isn't afriad to show her sexy side. The close fit shows off her famous curves while the fishtail skirt gives her a perfect womanly silhouette.

Kylie doesn't always just go for the safe option when it comes to red carpet fashion. This outfit that she wore to Cannes last year was much criticised by the press for being too revealing and a little on the dominatrix side.

The sheer corset top revealed Kylie's toned body (and outie belly button) while the dress was accessorised with zippers and belts for the rock chick look.

Just because a woman hits her 40s doesn't mean she should hide her body from the world- especially if it looks as good as Kylie's.

Kylie is a great example of how to look good no matter what your age is. She knows how to balance a sense of maturity and classic elegance without losing that sexy, fun edge that has kept her at the top of her game for so long- Happy Birthday Kylie!
