Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet hasn't always been blessed with the best sense of style, who could forget her green and orange hair-do for Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind?

However, after pictures emerged of a certain blonde bombshell yesterday, we were stunned. Kate looked gorgeous with a newly highlighted do, a trim figure showed off in a tight grey dress and a healthy golden glow.

She's faced her fair share or criticism and airbrushing scandals in the past, with the most recent controversy centring around her latest shoot for Vanity Fair magazine. Posing in just stockings and suspenders, the Titanic actress had never looked in better shape, which instantly started the rumours of 'heavy airbrushing.'

Well, if Kate hadn't already silenced the critics with her denial over the airbrushing claims, her appearance at a premiere on Wednesday night will certainly have done the trick; there's no airbrushing in real life, after all.

All this got us thinking about Kate and her sense of style that has developed over the years, along with her fluctuating weight. What makes her so endearing to women is that she is just like us; one day she's thin and the next day she may have gained weight, only she has to do it under the scrutiny of the media spotlight.

It's fair to say that she first came to our attention in the blockbuster movie, Titanic, where she starred alongside American heart throb Leonardo DiCaprio. The film propelled both stars to international fame, but with it came a certain expectation which Kate should adhere to; loose her curves and become thinner.

Well, that's another reason why we love her because she refused to do it and what's more became more popular than ever, starring in Iris alongside Dame Judi Dench, The Life of David Gale opposite Kevin Spacey and Finding Neverland with the gorgeous Johnny Depp.

While her professional career took off, Kate's style was also starting to come to the forefront, with her stealing the show at the 2002 Oscars in a stunning one shoulder Ben De Lisi dress, which had all the fashion pack swooning. Kate seems to be most comfortable at premiere and award events, rarely putting a fashion foot wrong on the red carpet.

Her blonde locks also seem to suit her pale complexion, while the red she sported in Titanic seemed to wash her out a little bit. We loved her look in the 2007 Oscars too where she continued her trend for wearing one shoulder dresses, only this time produced a gorgeous mint green version.

Kate's best look so far however has to the one we've seen this week as she's never looked so happy or indeed healthy. The lighter colour of blonde suits her, the dark grey colour of the dress looks like it was only meant for her and her newly acquired tan, real or fake really completed the look.

We think if she doesn't bag that Oscar next year, after a record five nominations and no wins, she at least deserves to win an award for her style. We'll be voting Kate!
