Ok, so Cate's not necessarily 'mature' being that she's only 39 but she exudes the kind of old world glamour and sophistication that seems to develop with age, and we for one love her structured style.
Tending to shun the Hollywood 'fake' look has paid off for Cate, as her porcelain skin and light blonde hair make her look a lot younger than she is, despite turning 40 this year.
Cate's red carpet fashion always seems to hit the right notes too, promoting the most glamorous of maternity wear when she was eight months pregnant.
Her look is always very polished and thought out, but she does arguably play it safe sometimes in dress shapes, which she knows suit her and her style.
However, her grey fishtail dress she sported last year was a different side to Cate, as it was a bit experimental for the Australian star and we for one, loved it.
She's also known for making a style statement on occasions, as her dress to the 77th Academy Awards in 2005 proved. Wearing a pale yellow Valentino gown with burgundy accents, the one-shoulder design was one of the biggest hits of the year.
Cate can do couture, dressed down glam and masculine dressing whenever it's required of her; in other words she is a fashion chameleon, which is why we think she highly deserves the accolade of mature fashion icon.
We'll be keeping a firm eye on what she'll be wearing for The Oscars however, to see if she can live up to our exceedingly high fashion expectations!
