How much is your make-up bag worth?

How much is your make-up bag worth?

More than £300 worth of goodies are filling our make-up bags, as new research indicated we're a nation of make-up addicts.

The most popular product in our bags is lipstick with women owning five of these, next up lipgloss with thse averaging at four.

Making the most of their eyes was important to those questioned with many carrying around three eye shadow palettes in their make -up bag and three individual eye shadows, with a combined value of £61.50.Mascara’s and eye pencils were deemed a must with respondents spending £24 and £12 respectively.

Foundation came out as the most expensive individual item, with the women spending around £18 on each, with many owning a couple.

Concealers were classed as a necessity to hide any flaws with most women having two of these, costing £24.

One respondent said: “It came as quite a shock when I totalled the amount my make-up bag was worth. Most of the items will last around six months before I replace them so over a year that’s a lot to spend – but worth every penny.”

Another added: “I love buying make-up – some women love shopping for shoes, I just can’t resist a new lipstick or eye shadow. If I’m out shopping with the girls, we always head straight for the make-up counter and always indulge in something.

“We try to avoid the designer names – they’re too expensive for us – and if we buy cheaper, we can get more for our money. We don’t feel quite as guilty then.”

A third said: “I’m not a big make-up buyer – I buy new when I need to replace or if I want to update my look for an occasion. It can still be an expensive treat, especially as I go for quality over quantity. A lipstick can easily set me back up to £25 but I know it’ll do the job better than its cheaper rivals.”

A spokeswoman for PromotionalCodes.org.uk, who conducted the research, said: “A woman’s relationship with her make up bag is one of those things that’s personal to her and something no man will ever understand.

“Make up has a dual purpose for most of us – it means we look better and it makes many of us feel more confident. It’s also nice to treat yourself every now and again to a new lipstick or mascara – we deserve it.”
