Its nearly Christmas and the winter season is fully upon us, the temperatures have dropped and the coats are out from under the stairs. With this drop in temperature it means the beginning of chapped, dry and sore lips. It's important to look after your lips especially in winter as the skin on your lips is the thinnest and most sensitive.

Here's some tips on caring for your lips this winter:

Exfoliate: Not many people exfoliate their lips, as exfoliation is usually considered to be something we do to our face. Lips are part of your face and it is just as important to exfoliate them, doing this gets rid of all the loose dry skin that builds up. Only use exfoliators that are specifically for your lips, as the skin is very sensitive and many contain harsh chemicals. A good one to use is the LUSH Sugar Scrubs, made with natural ingredients so does not aggravate your lips and even better LUSH products are not tested on animals.

Use a moisturising lip balm: This is essential all year round not just in winter! It's important to find one with SPF just because it's snowing does not mean that the UV rays cannot get to you skin, this also adds an extra layer of protection. To stop your lips from getting dry or chapped get a lip balm with a high moisturising factor this will keep your lips hydrated and make them feel comfortable. A good hydrating lip balm is the Vitamin E Lip Care SPF15 from The Body Shop, it is super moisturising and a great protector against harsh weather conditions.

Add a touch of colour: During winter wearing lipsticks can be difficult particularly if you suffer from chapped lips often, it can make lipstick look grainy and your lipped can feel dry. Now there are many alternatives to heavy lipsticks, Tinted lip balms are great for something different to your everyday lip balm! They have all the qualities of a balm but have that pop of colour that's sometimes missing, a great tinted lip balm is the ALBUS & FLORA Multi-Active Tinted Lip Balm in Snowberry Red. This tinted balm is a lovely sheer red colour perfect for the winter season and is completely natural so no nasty ingredients to aggravate your lips.

Damaged? don't worry: Winter chapped lips can soon become sore and extremely dry this can lead to cold sores in extreme case which are painful to go through. To help ease some of the pain and prevent further cold sores or dryness try using Blistex Relief Cream. It will help your lips recover when the signs first start coming through just apply this and it will help get you through it.

Stay Hydrated: Most of us forget to keep up with our hydration during winter, but with forgetting to drink you are taking away moisture from your lips. It's a fact that drinking plenty water helps your skin repair and look healthier and your lips are the same!
