Gossip Girl's Blair knows how to keep her hair in place

We've looked at protecting your hair from the perils of wet and cold weather, but what about helping you hair to recover after being blasted by the elements?

The windswept look is never a good style choice, unless of course you're going for that 'just rolled out of bed look' and even then, you may as well of not bothered combing your hair at all.

Picture the scene, you've just finished primping, styling and curling your locks to absolute perfection in preparation of a night out. You step outside, only to be blasted by a gust of wind so strong that you stumble backwards.

You hurry back inside to discover that not only has your hair gone about as limp as a pancake, but you've suddenly got about a dozen new split ends too.

The wind causes your hair to tangle more and as an adverse affect, it can damage cuticle layers and weaken the hair shaft, which then leads to breakage.

Unfortunately with the wintry weather still upon us, the central heating in your house could also be causing your hair damage, by robbing it of the essential oils it needs to keep it looking glossy and shiny.

Hair always seems to look more dull in winter, and even if you've started to take measures to protect your locks, it can often still look drab and neglected.

So what can you do to make your hair shine like the sun, when the weather is dull and grey? Well, for starters you can pump your locks full of moisture with an intensive treatment mask at least once a week.

Or invest in a mask you can leave on overnight, as the longer your hair has to recover from all the styling and harsh weather elements the better.

You can also take measures to protect your hair while you're outside, by spritzing your hair with some holding spray before stepping out. It may not protect your style, but it will keep your moisture levels up when out in the winter sun.
