Madonna keeps her hands covered with gloves on stage

Ageing hands are never a good look, and whilst you may be hiding your real age through your face and body there's a chance your hands are giving it away.

Following record temperatured this summer, more women than ever are holding their hands up to excessive sun exposure.

They're complaining of unsightly sunspots and sun-ravaged 'Madonna hands', according to new statistics.

Transform Cosmetic Surgery reports a 28% increase in the number of female enquirers seeking solutions to reverse the damaging effects of the sun in the past month alone.

Interestingly, 18% of those enquiries were specifically to improve the appearance of aging hands, with many women likening their sun-ravaged mitts to that of Madonna’s, for which the otherwise flawless queen of pop has encountered much media attention.

It is reported that Madonna has had fillers injected into her hands to give them a fresher, more youthful appearance, sparking a trend amongst British women wanting to reverse the signs of aging following the hottest July since 2006.

Transform’s Non-surgical Operations Manager, Ann-Marie Gillett comments: “Our hands are exposed to the sun more frequently than other parts of the body and a failure to apply sun cream to hands as regularly as we do the face makes them susceptible to sunspots and accelerated aging. With the hot weather this summer we have experienced a marked increase in enquiries from women complaining of sunspots on their hands, along with the skin becoming thin and crepey.

“Hand rejuvenation is becoming increasingly popular, with dermal fillers volumising and smoothing the skin, encouraging the production of collagen to provide a youthful look. Laser resurfacing of the hands is also on the rise thanks to its ability toimprove sun-damaged skin and reduce the appearance of sunspots.”
