The relationship between clear skin and confidence is paramount, and has a huge impact on your psychological health.
Witch Skincare, has undertaken new research to uncover the psycho-social effects of problem skin, and how a good skin day can impact your confidence, mood and wellbeing.
Results have shown that 72% of women said they would feel more confident if they had clearer skin, and 36% said a flare up leaves them feeling depressed.
Consultant psychologist Jo Hemmings said: “The appearance of our skin has a huge impact on our inner self-esteem and outward confidence. While most of us are able to disguise a bad hair day, it is much harder to deal with a bad skin day and having healthy, clear and glowing skin is one of the first things people notice about us. Little wonder it has such a major impact on our mood and our sense of well-being.”
Find yourself feeling self-conscious and touchy when faced with a bad skin day? You are not alone. 50% of ladies feel the same way and 39% admitted to cancelling an event at least once because of their skin.
It seems women have gone to great lengths to hide away from skin woes, from 1 out of 5 cancelling social events to 37% opting for strategic hairstyling to conceal their blemishes.
If faced with the choice between a ‘Bad Skin Day’ and a ‘Bad Hair Day’, 4 out of 5 would choose a Bad Hair Day, and in order to manage problem skin 45% of women admitted to having put toothpaste on blemishes and 3 out of 4 ladies have squeezed spots, (even though they know they shouldn’t!) Shockingly, 1 in 4 of women have also worn make up to bed or got up early to apply make up to hide blemishes from their partners.
