Why go abroad this summer when you have beautiful beaches on your doorstep. Our little island(s) is surrounded by over 9,000 metres of coastline and 734 beaches, three quarters of which received the highest rating of excellent water quality from the Marine Conservation Society in 2013. The Good Spa Guide has rounded up their five favourite spas on the beach. Summer perfection!
Headland Hotel and Spa
www.headlandhotel.co.uk
Just off Fistral Beach in Newquay, is the family owned and run Headland Hotel. With fabulous views over the Atlantic Ocean, Headland Spa is very modern with state of the art facilities and a gorgeous relaxation room.
Facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, hot tub, indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam and rhassoul.
Treatments here are very special; we tried "the Dreaming" which is an 80 minute ritual including a body massage, body scrub, head massage and facial. It was divine…
The Vale Resort
www.vale-hotel.com/Surfing-Breaks/Surf-Spa-Breaks-Wales
Head to the Vale Resort just outside Cardiff for an indulgent Welsh surf and spa break. Quieter than the Cornwall surf scene, you'll be catching a wave on Porthcawl beach in no time at all. When you're surfed out, retreat back to The Vale's Five Bubble spa for a massage.
The spa has plenty of facilities including steam, sauna, whirlpool bath, pool and ice fountain. Look out for the dark and tranquil chromatherapy room for post-treatment relaxation.
The spa is perfect for groups of friends, so get a party together for some surf 'n' spa.
The Scarlet Spa
www.scarlethotel.co.uk
The Scarlet Spa is a holistic haven with cliff top views over Mawgan Porth in Cornwall. We love their outdoor reed pool and cliff top hot tubs.
As an adults-only spa the whole place is very quiet, tranquil and calm with great eco credentials and delicious food. Make sure you check out the cocoon pods in the relaxation room.
The treatments and products are based on avurvedic practice (Hindu traditional medicine), so your therapist will ascertain your dosha or constitution type and personalise your treatment to suit you.
The sandy Mawgan Porth beach is just a five minute walk down the coast path.
L'Horizon Beach Hotel and Spa
www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/hotels/lhorizon
L'Horizon Spa opens out onto Saint Brelade's Bay in Jersey. A hundred miles off the English coastline, you can make use of the most temperate climate in the country. Spend your morning on the golden sandy beach and your afternoon indulging in spa treatments and afternoon tea.
Facilities at L'Horizon include an indoor pool, sauna, steam, Jacuzzi and two relaxation rooms. Make sure you swim a few lengths of the pool which has floor to ceiling glass windows looking over the beach; particularly dramatic at sunrise and sunset.
Bailiffscourt Hotel and Spa
www.hshotels.co.uk/bailiffscourt-hotel-and-spa
The Spa at Bailiffscourt hotel is rural, quiet and very chilled out. Set in a medieval style building it is all wooden beams, limestone walls and traditional English roses. Sitting in the outside hot tub the only thing you'll hear is the occasional chirrup of birdsong.
Take a five minute walk through the grounds and you'll get to the quiet Climping beach. It's a pebble beach so you probably wouldn't want to lay back and sunbath, but it does make a beautiful morning walk.
The spa is super romantic, so take your partner for a weekend getaway.
